The jump from twenty to twenty-two millimetres is the jump from a watch you wear to a watch you take outside. Garmin uses the wider lug on the cases with the most metal in them, and a strap for it has to carry more watch: the silicone here is a shade thicker through the tail, and the buckles are proportioned to match rather than borrowed from the 20mm line.
Because the fitting is the same across every 22mm Garmin, this page mixes watches that have nothing else in common. An Instinct and a Venu 3 look nothing alike and take the same strap, which is the useful part: if you own two Garmins on the wider lug, one purchase covers both.

Does your Garmin take a 22mm GEAK band?
Instinct and Instinct 2 take 22mm, and so do the mid-size Fenix cases and several Venu and Forerunner models. The number is not printed on the front of the watch: measure the gap the old strap sat in, or check the model in the fit guide.
Will a 22mm GEAK band feel thicker on you than the 20mm one?
Through the tail, slightly, because it has to carry a heavier case without flapping. The fitting itself is the same design - a quick-release spring bar with a lever at one end.
Can you run in a 22mm GEAK band?
The silicone and the nylon, yes: both take sweat and both wash under a tap. Leather and steel are the two to leave for the days the watch is not moving.
